DRY NEEDLING

We believe Adelaide Physiocare and Sports Acupuncture is the leading dry needling physiotherapy clinic in Adelaide due to our experience, style of needling and progression of this approach. We have been one of the country’s pioneering clinics with combining manual physiotherapy techniques together with acupuncture initially and now dry needling. This allows us to manage both people's general pains and sports injuries of all levels very effectively and quickly, and allows you to get back to your optimal performance in the quickest, safest and strongest way possible.

We also pride ourselves as being one of the leading dry needling physiotherapy clinic especially with regards to our management of athetes. We have managed a large number of professional and top level elite athletes' muscle imbalances and maintenence requirements with our dry needling techniques for many years.

In summary, Dry Needling is a 'Western style' of acupuncture that is evidenced based to loosen overactive, tight and painful muscles. When needled well, inserting a thin acupuncture needle into the tight knotted muscle (a myofascial trigger point) deactivates tension and relaxes the overactive muscle better than other manual techniques.

Dry needling is included within our normal Physiotherapy consults, and together with other manual therapy and exercise prescription allow us to provide fantastic results to patients and remain one of Adelaide’s leading physio clinics.

ACUPUNCTURE

As a comparison to dry needling, traditional acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, and in the modern era research has proven it to be a safe and effective treatment for injuries and imbalances of a musculoskeletal nature. It is incredibly effective for relieving muscle pain and spasm and improving circulation to tense or injured tissues. Acupuncture is based on the belief that health is determined by a balanced flow of chi– the vital life energy present in all living organisms – and works to restore your body in a natural way.

Dry needling is the predominant needling style used in mainstream Physiotherapy, however traditional Acupuncture can still have a range of applications in both sports-specific and more general physiotherapy treatment plans.
